Irises and A Foxglove
This painting was inspired by a photo taken in my garden several years ago. I was ready to “paint loose” again, in this one, and so I got out my palette knives. The day I captured the picture, the Dutch Irises were in bloom and a single Foxglove decided to show up. The background shrubs add to the drama. Just look at the hues of browns, burgundy and pinks that rendered the form of a Loropetalum back there! And the horizon line helps you know there’s even more to the garden beyond our view. This may be one of my favorite paintings I’ve completed.
Size (h & w): 20 x 16 in
Medium: Oil On Canvas
