Docked for the Evening
I painted this scene from a photograph taken on a beautiful early evening. I was visiting my friend, Elizabeth, in Mt. Pleasant just over the bridge from Charleston, SC. The sun had disappeared over the horizon and the boats had docked for the night. I was so drawn to the shades of orange and soft pink on the white sailboats. The sense of reflected light is even stronger against the peaceful blue of the water, the subtle turquoise and grays in the clouds above, the browns of the posts and riggings, and the dark treeline silhouetted in the background. One is rarely as aware of just how many colors make up a scene as when they begin to paint it. This is another piece in my "Reflections" series.
